Question of the night: Have a fantastic summer. Be safe!
Happy last day of school. we've made it! Thank you for an amazing year, grade 4s. It was great to teach and learn together with all of you. Enjoy your summer! We continued with our learning today. We started with finishing off a few of our builders of Alberta presentations. We learned a bit about Louise McKinney and Chief David Crowchild. We also spent some time this morning in our minecraft communities. We brainstormed some key features of communities, and made sure to incorporate those features in each of our communities. To end of the day, and the year, we watched the movie "On the Edge of Destruction: the Frank Slide Story". Some of us were already experts on Frank Slide, since we read some books on the subject during book clubs. What an amazing story! Oh, and by the way, the OH Stampede ranch will be open to the public for one day on August 18th from 10-4pm as part of Alberta Open Farm Day. This is a great chance to explore Alberta's ranching history. Report Cards went home today. Please contact me with any questions... Have a great summer. ____________________________________________________ Butterscotch the Guinea Pig Room 3's classroom guinea pig, Butterscotch, is looking for a place (or places) to live over the summer! If you and your family would be able and willing to take her (even if for just a week!) please email Miss Gilbank at [email protected] with the dates that you would be available to house her! She is a lovely, kind guinea pig, and has very much grown in our class's hearts this year! Thank you! Question of the night: Use one word to describe your feelings toward summer.
And now we're down to one. We began the morning with our end of year assembly, where we said goodbye to many teachers and students. It's sometimes sad to see your friends leave, but it's exciting to know that they will be going on new adventures! We worked a little bit on our petroglyphs, watched an episode of mathnet, then read wishtree. We'll finish the book tomorrow. In the afternoon, we finished our last session of picture book experts, then worked on our communities. They are really coming together, which is great to see. See you tomorrow. We'll have a bit of a party to celebrate our learning. Bye for now! ____________________________________________________ Butterscotch the Guinea Pig Room 3's classroom guinea pig, Butterscotch, is looking for a place (or places) to live over the summer! Question of the night: what did you work on in your minecraft community today?
T-2 days... And our last week at school is off with a bang. We started today by finishing off a few more builders of Alberta Presentations. We learned all about Sam Livingston, William Aberhart, and David Thompson today. We're down to our last few. We also worked on our very own petroglyphs this morning. THey each tell a story about ourselves, and they do not use any written language. We will continue to carve them tomorrow. I think we have more appreciation for how difficult it must have been to record history on stone... In the afternoon, we began working on our last culminating project. In minecraft, we are building a community, making sure to pull together all of our knowledge of what communities need. I wonder if some of these separate communities will grow together into one?? Have a good night. ____________________________________________________ Butterscotch the Guinea Pig Room 3's classroom guinea pig, Butterscotch, is looking for a place (or places) to live over the summer! Question of the night: One word to describe each of your buddies.
We began the day with a bit of work on our petroglyphs. We examined the last few petroglyphs from Writing-On-Stone Provincial park. Over the next few days, we will make our own petroglyph. We met up with our grade 2 buddies for the last time this year. We surprised them with friendship bracelets and they surprised us with homemade cards. We loved it! In the afternoon, we had our last work period on our historic building study. Most people are finished. Sports Day is tomorrow - please come prepared for the weather. Here's an important announcement about yearbooks: We are doing Yearbook signing on Friday, June 22, 2018 after the Sports Day activities. This is a chance for students to move about and get their classmates, school friends, and teachers to sign their yearbook. If you did not purchase a yearbook with the fees at the beginning of the year, there is a limited amount of yearbooks for purchase. Each yearbook is $18.00 and must be purchased with a cheque or cash (exact amount, no change will be given) in the office. First come, first served with payment. Each student that has not purchased a yearbook will be given a specially designed autograph page that can be signed by classmates. Please check with your child’s teacher as they will have a list of those who have purchased yearbooks. ____________________________________________________ Important Dates:
Question of the night: Use one word to describe your year in grade 4.
Wow, another scorcher in the classroom. Don't worry, Mr. Rommel is checking into the A/C in our class... Mrs. Masson was here this morning. We worked on some writing with her, as well as some math. It was a full morning! In the afternoon, we congratulated the grade 6s on their graduation, then came back to the class for some secret Buddy work!! Shh, don't tell... Question of the night: Use one word describe your best friend.
Some more Alberta builders presentations this morning. We learned about Jerry Potts, Tom Three Persons, and Sam Livingston. Thanks to all for their amazing work! We continued to work on our petroglyphs study this morning. We studied some artifacts from writing-on-stone provincial park, then tried to tell a story from the artifact. We wondered if the artifacts were about an important event in history, a tradition, or a way that the blackfoot worked with the land. We've got a few more to get through, then we'll design our own. The rest of the morning was spent working on long division and practicing this very important skill. We're not there yet... In the afternoon, we continued to work on our historical building study. We also had some time to explore a 1903 phone book from Calgary. We recognized some very famous entries, like AE Cross, JA LougheeD, and many other numbers for famous buildings. Bye for now! ____________________________________________________ Important Dates:
Question of the night: If you had to explain to someone how to divide 43 by 5, how would you do it?
We began the day with a few builder of alberta presentations. Please remember, if you are not finished, you need to work on it at home. You can access all of your work on google docs and adobe spark online. This morning, we learned about tom Three Persons, William Aberhart, and Guy Weadick. Also this morning, we began our last social studies inquiry of the year. It all revolves around storytelling and the Blackfoot oral tradition. We are focusing our work on the petroglyphs of Writing-On-Stone Provincial park. We worked on some role playing with "generations" this morning, which made us realize how easy it is to accidentally change history, especially if that history is not written down. We watched a couple of warm-up videos to get us ready to discuss petroglyphs. We'll continue tomorrow. Here are the videos: Stories on Stone. Question of the night: Have a great weekend!
Hello! We had a great day! We started the day with a Friday Flick: Creatures of Light. After that, we worked on our historical buildings of Calgary in Minecraft. We're doing so well, and will continue next week! We finished the day with our picture books expert, then our last health discussion. Happy Father's Day! Have a great weekend. ____________________________________________________ Important Dates:
Question of the night: what does "fair" mean in math?
Phew...the rain held off for most of our field trip today. We had an amazing time downtown on our urban walk. We explored St. Patrick's Island, the confluence of the Elbow and Bow rivers, Fort Calgary, and Calgary's City Hall. We even got a chance to go check out our historical buildings that we're researching. Some of us saw Mayor Nenshi, which was a pretty big bonus. Thank you, of course, to all of the parents who made this trip happen. We simply can't enjoy these trips without your help. Some students want to have a pajama day tomorrow...ok, that's fine with me! Have a great night. Get some rest! ____________________________________________________ Important Dates:
