Math Resources
Math is about playing. Playing with numbers, with patterns, with relationships. A strong sense of numbers, and how they relate to one another, is the most critical aspect of math. Exploring how numbers, shapes, animals, people relate to one another allows us to pinpoint patterns in behaviour. Of course, we need to practice these skills, and we need to be able to quickly and effectively recall the most common relationships, sometimes called "basic Facts". we will work hard to ensure that these facts are easily remembered, but we won't lose sight of the real meaning of math: Playing.
Problem of the Week
The Problem of the Week is designed to provide students with an ongoing opportunity to solve math problems. Each week, problems from various areas of math will be posted here for us to solve together...

We live in a universe of patterns, and math is the study of patterns. Nature is full of patterns, from the number of petals on a daisy to the spiral of a nautilus shell to the symmetry of the human face. Patterns are everywhere, and studying them allows us to deeply investigate math concepts.
When I say Math, you say numbers...ready? Math, Numbers...math, numbers...Math, Numbers. Okay, you get the point. Numbers are pretty important in math. Numbers are sort of Math's language, and like any language, there are some rules everyone needs to follow. Luckily, these rules follow some pretty easy patterns. So, let's get to it!
Have you ever wondered why fractions and decimals always seem to taught at the same time? It's because they are really the same thing. Well, not exactly. Both fractions and decimals mean the same thing, but they are written completely different. Check the links below for some practice.

Spatial Sense involves visualization, mental imagery and spatial reasoning. These skills are central to the understanding of mathematics.
Spatial sense is developed through a variety of experiences and interactions within the environment. The development of spatial sense enables students to solve problems involving 3-D objects and 2-D shapes and to interpret and reflect on the physical environment and its 3-D or 2-D representations. -- Mathematics Program of Studies |
