Wow, where does the time go? This morning we rehearsed for our celebration of learning that is taking place on February 18th. We'll be getting together again tomorrow to do the same. Please practice the two songs we'll be singing.
We also had another day of popsicle partnerships, and it was a huge success again. We talked about kindness, which is the real reason we are pursuing this venture. Kindness towards one another makes us a more welcoming and accepting community. In the end, that's what we strive for everyday in our classroom, and hopefully in life. In the afternoon, we tested our "catapulting" devices. It was very interesting to see the various designs and building materials used. Next, we move onto Lego mindstorms! Have a great night! __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students (Term 2): https://studio.code.org/sections/LIDSBR __________________________________________________ A message from Mme. Bergerman, Hello amazing POW parents! We are so thankful for all of the donations you’ve provided for our Idea Lab thus far. Students have begun working on their design challenges that support the needs of a classmate. Their creations are amazing! Because we have every student in the school working with our supplies we have found that some in particular are running a bit low. Ideally, we’d love to receive your donations on Mondays or Tuesday mornings before the 8:30 AM bell as we have a team of dedicated volunteers helping to sort and organize our space. That being said, we will always welcome anything you think would be valuable for us to use here in the Idea Lab. We would like to ask for specific items for the month of February:

A fantastic day at Telus Spark. We were part of two programs, one about light and shadows and the other about simple machines. It was so great to see the students' creativity. Thank you to all the parent volunteers that made today possible, as well as the students for being great ambassadors of Prince of Wales.
See you tomorrow. Don't forget that we only have school on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, then it's teachers' Convention, so students are off!! Bye for now. __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students (Term 2): https://studio.code.org/sections/LIDSBR __________________________________________________ A message from Mme. This morning we put the finishing touches on our latest builds. We'll be testing on Tuesday.
We also had our first session of Power Hour. Students were extremely excited about their courses. In computer programming this week, we tried to "program" a path to the library...remember, you need to be very specific! Please note that there is no power hour next week, as it is Teachers' Convention. We're getting close to finishing our read-aloud novel, Storm Child. Our next language Arts projects will be Book Clubs based on Alberta novels. We have a field trip to Telus Spark on February 8th. Please contact me if you would like to volunteer. Please return permission forms ASAP, thank you. __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students (Term 2): https://studio.code.org/sections/LIDSBR __________________________________________________ A message from Mme. We began a new initiative this morning called Popsicle Partnerships. Basically, the end goal is to get to know others in the classroom and perhaps bloom new friendships. Essentially, each student is given one partner at morning recess, which they have to "get to know". Today was day 1, and was a huge success!
We're getting close to finishing our read-aloud novel, Storm Child. Our next language Arts projects will be Book Clubs based on Alberta novels. We continued our simple machines centres this afternoon, then dove right into another build. This time, the students have been given 3 challenges to accomplish with their device. This build will allow students to use their knowledge of some of the simple machines we studied. The other simple machines will be studied in more detail next week using robots! We have a field trip to Telus Spark on February 8th. Please contact me if you would like to volunteer. Please return permission forms ASAP, thank you. Oh, and Power Hour starts again this Friday @ 10:30am. Bye for now, __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students (Term 1): http://studio.code.org/sections/sgkjcx __________________________________________________ Reminders:
Happy Groundhog Day. I wonder where that tradition originated?
This morning, we spent some time in the Idea Lab, finalizing our first prototypes. The next step is to re-evaluate our designs, and see if they meet the needs of our targeted audience. We'll continue this next week. We're getting close to finishing our read-aloud novel, Storm Child. Our next language Arts projects will be Book Clubs based on Alberta novels. In the afternoon, Ms. Purkiss read a story to us called, "What if everybody did that?" We're going to work on some of the things mentioned in the book throughout this week. We have a field trip to Telus Spark on February 8th. Please contact me if you would like to volunteer. Please return permission forms ASAP, thank you. Oh, and Power Hour starts again this Friday @ 10:30am. Students were handed their option forms today.
