Hi! A fun filled friday. We started the day with a bit of a small "test" on the distributive property. Well, it wasn't much of a test, just a way for Mr. V to see where we need to go.
Boot camp was next, then a bit of a flag walk around the school. We're trying to figure out why nation's choose their flags...there must be some reason, right? We'll continue with this next week, then link it with Alberta's heritage. POWER hour was again a hit - only a few more left, though. Have a great weekend. Field trip forms for our Glenbow trip will go home Monday. __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students (Term 2): https://studio.code.org/sections/LIDSBR __________________________________________________ Reminders:
Wowza, what a full day! In the morning, we had a genius hour presentation by BW. It was great to learn about WWII, and to make sure we remember the sacrifice that people made. We also had another presentation on the different types of sharks, complete with a jaw artifact. Thank you to BV, SF, and CG for teaching us.
We continue to work on our multiplication facts, including using the distributive property. We'll do a bit of a "test" tomorrow. In the afternoon, we worked on some art with MS. Covic and Mrs. Danberger. Don't forget POWER HOur tomorrow! Have a good night. __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students (Term 2): https://studio.code.org/sections/LIDSBR __________________________________________________ Reminders:
Sorry for not updating our blog the last week.
We continued to work on multiplication today. We worked on the algorithm today, using the distribution property (ie. breaking numbers apart) as our inspiration. We mostly worked with single digits today, then hopefully with double digits tomorrow. We continue to work on our book club final projects. We're hoping to get them finished by early next week. We continue to work with light & Shadows. Today, we specifically talked about refraction. We made pencils "break" un water. We also made coins "multiply" in water...an easy way to double your money! Oh, and lastly, we talked about using commas properly. We read "Orange Pear Apple Bear" to demonstrate the point of commas. __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students (Term 2): https://studio.code.org/sections/LIDSBR __________________________________________________ Reminders:
Another hot day...and exciting, too.
We played some 99 this morning, then worked on our book club projects. They are coming along nicely. We also worked on 10 Monkeys this morning. This afternoon, we spent some time with our buddies, then studied how light reflects. Have a good night. Don't forget Student-led conferences this week! __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students (Term 2): https://studio.code.org/sections/LIDSBR __________________________________________________ Reminders:
Phew...it was a hot one today!
We forgot to mention yesterday that we welcomed Mrs. Danberger into our learning community. She'll be teaching and learning with us for the next 4 weeks. We're excited to have her here. After music this morning, we practiced some of our multiplication facts using cusinaire rods. We even proved the commutative property of multiplication: a x B = b x a. We're working on these basic facts, then we'll move to 2 digit by 1 digit multiplication. We'll get into the traditional algorithm a little bit later, too. We've started to work on our final project for book CLub 2.0. The final projects won't be done for conferences this week - they'll just show our learning process. In the afternoon, we again talked about Aboriginal legends, then watched a video on the eye, with some, shall we say, parts that made some of us lose our appetite. Don't forget Student-led conferences this week! __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students (Term 2): https://studio.code.org/sections/LIDSBR __________________________________________________ Reminders:
Hi Again!
A very exciting math discovery day. We first worked on building our very own multiplication chart. The great thing is that we don't have to check if we've got it right because there are patterns throughout. Tomorrow we're going to jump into 2 digit by 1 digit multiplication. Should be fun! We also very briefly talked about out final book club projects. Students will be asked to choose a medium to show their understanding of the book. We'll work this week on this project, and likely next week as well. In the afternoon, we talked a bit about Aboriginal legends, then finished off our teepees. Don't forget Student-led conferences this week! __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students (Term 2): https://studio.code.org/sections/LIDSBR __________________________________________________ Reminders:
Hello! A very quick day.
We had flashlight friday this morning, then had some time in the gym for Boot Camp. We had an Independent work period to finish a few of the items we have on the go. Please don't forget to book your student-led conference time. They are this coming thursday after school and friday 8-1pm. Have a good weekend. __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students (Term 2): https://studio.code.org/sections/LIDSBR __________________________________________________ Reminders:
Hi All!
This morning we had time with Ms. Dennill. We're all working towards our belts - very exciting! We also learned about faces, edges, and vertices of 3D Objects. We're working on figuring out a rule to tell how many faces, Edges, and vertices each object will have. We'll finish that tomorrow. Ms. Covic was in our class this afternoon. We worked on writing for our mira art - it'll be ready for next week. We also had a challenge in the Idea Lab. Homework:
