Thank you to all the parents that provided food for today's brunch. It is very much appreciated.
Have a great holiday. We'll see you on January 4th. Thank you to the parents that volunteered for our walking trip this afternoon. It was a beautiful afternoon of learning with our grade 1 buddies.
The Power Hour Showcase is tonight from 4-6pm. It is a drop-in affair, so please come check out the amazing work of our students. Tomorrow is pajama day, as instituted by our grade 4 class. See you tomorrow! __________________________________________________ The Grade 4 classes will be celebrating winter break together on Friday, December 18th. We will be holding a brunch-type of activity as it will be in the morning instead of the afternoon. As part of this day, students will be working together in a winter "build". We will be eating from about 8:45 – 9:15 ish (longer if needed). We are hoping to use half the Gym for this event, but we are unsure if we are able to use it or not at this time. If we can’t, we will be using our classrooms, or possibly another common space, such as the library. All parents are welcome to attend the brunch and all activities as well __________________________________________________ The grade 4s will be accompanying our grade 1 buddies on a nature walk to the ridge at Fish Creek. The trip will be taking place on Thursday, December 17th @ 2-3pm. This walk is in support of our plant growth and changes science unit, as students will be observing the changes occurring to plants during the winter months. This trip will also complement our work on Alberta's natural regions. Each grade 4 class is in need of (at a minimum) 3 volunteers. Please contact your child's teacher if you are willing to accompany us on this trip. A decision on weather will be made on the day of the trip __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students: http://studio.code.org/sections/sgkjcx __________________________________________________ Reminders:

Our walking trip with the Grade 1 buddies is tomorrow afternoon, from 2-3pm. Come prepared for the weather, please. See you tomorrow. __________________________________________________ The Grade 4 classes will be celebrating winter break together on Friday, December 18th. One week left! We continued our build this afternoon. Students are diligently working on their designs, consistently making sure to test and re-test their designs.
In the morning, we continued with Storm Child, our novel study. It is based in Fort Edmonton, but it seems that the setting might be changing to further south. Isobel, the main character, is going to live with her grandparents. I wonder where they live? We sang some Carols this afternoon. We'll be doing the same tomorrow morning. __________________________________________________ The grade 4s will be accompanying our grade 1 buddies on a nature walk to the ridge at Fish Creek. We had a visit from our S4 Police Officer this morning. Constable Jan talked to us about his role as a resource officer, as well as his beliefs as a police officer. The students asked some amazingly thoughtful questions. We will have constable jan visit us again in the new year.
Toy building was amazing again today. We've established that the project is due on Wednesday of next week, with an exhibit walk scheduled for the next day. In the afternoon, we also talked to our grade 1 buddies, and got to know them better by using venn diagrams. We are so similar, even though we're three years older! __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students: http://studio.code.org/sections/sgkjcx __________________________________________________ Reminders:

We continued our toy building this morning. Most groups have begun building. It's always amazing to see the creativity! We can't wait to see the toys that are built, and of course, play with them.
We also talked about multiplication and division with Cusinaire rods...sometimes multiplication and division don't have to include x or /. Book Orders are due tomorrow, if you would like to order. _________________________________________________ Please see the request below... Students have begun their next two Science Units: Wheels and Levers in conjunction with Building Vehicles and Devices that Move. Next week, December 7 –11 students will participate in a collaborative,hands-on Science activity that will involve designing and building new and innovative toys. In order to make this activity a success I am hoping that parents will be able to donate the following items:
Thank-you! _________________________________________________ A Message from Mme. Bergerman Our Idea Lab is taking shape and we are so very excited to see progress happening daily. We are so excited to get our kids in there and start building, exploring and designing new and innovative things that help solve real-life problems in a creative way. There is a way you can help! On the Idea Lab website, http://powidealab.weebly.com there is a new page that features “Our Wishlist”. This is a spot where you can see what we are in need of to make our Idea Lab a really cool place to learn. Please contact Mme Bergerman if you have any questions about this process or something you’d like to donate. Thanks so much for all you do for us! __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students: http://studio.code.org/sections/sgkjcx __________________________________________________ Reminders:
Thank you to all students that have contributed materials to our building this week.. It is very much appreciated. We started to plan our build, using our "customers'" interests as benchmarks. We continue tomorrow.
Please note that students continue to have home Reading homework. The discussions are taking place in D2L under "Discussions". Students are aware of their weekly responsibilities. Our travel planning in social continues this week. We'll push back the due date since we missed a few of our work periods last week. We had a great time listening to the amazing drumming talents at POW. Thank you for your great audience manners. We also had a presentation from Inside Education that talked about Alberta's natural resources and regions, and how we can be good stewards of these resources. We (finally) met our grade 1 buddies this afternoon. We got to read together and be great role models. We can't wait until next time! There is no school tomorrow, at least for students. Have a great weekend. _________________________________________________ Please see the request below...
