Question of the night: Finish this sentence, "If I could have one superpower, it would be..."
We started the morning with music. We're getting ready for the Remembrance Day assembly, which we're hosting as 3/4 students. After that, we continued to talk about patterns. We talked about patterns in Peru, then talked about patterns in Morse code, then we watched a small clip about the halifax explosion of 1917, which re-enforced why patterns are important (in this case, it's because of morse code). We continued with Wonder. August is gearing up for halloween, his favourite holiday. He's going as Bobba Fett from Star Wars. In the afternoon, we worked on handwriting the letter "g", then had our first session of "Duolingo", one of the apps we'll use during our french instruction. Have a great night! ____________________________________________________ A note from our class coordinator, Jenny Fech, is below: Our classroom email coordinator this year is Jenny Fech. Question of the night: About what are you an expert? (This does not have to do with school.)
We had some technical difficulties last night with the blog. It's all sorted out now... This morning, we worked on a math challenge involving magic squares. The problem is posted as our first problem of the week on our website. We had our class photos this morning as well, right after a muffalo Potato...huh? Ask your child about this... In the afternoon, we worked on the lowercase "a" in handwriting. We were then challenged to work on "Leap Frog" - a math challenge. Try it here: LeapFrog. Have a great night. ____________________________________________________ A note about Terry Fox Initiatives: "Do the do for Terry" One way our entire school community can show their support for the students involved in the head shave is to "Do the Do". Question of the night: For What do you want to be remembered at Prince of Wales?
We continued to work on SLAs this morning. The grade 3s worked on their numeracy piece, while the grade 4s briefly worked on visualizing numbers. We'll continue both tomorrow, as well as health for the 4s. Literacy centres are going really well. All groups will have rotated through at the end of this week, then we'll switch them up for next week. ____________________________________________________ A note about Terry Fox Initiatives: "Do the do for Terry" One way our entire school community can show their support for the students involved in the head shave is to "Do the Do". Question of the night: Finish this sentence: "If I could research any topic this year, it would be ........."
This morning, students worked on completing their first writing sample of the year. They have been writing about a trip they would like to take. We will use this data to assess on what we need to focus this year. We also did some work on estimating this morning. This is very preliminary work, which we'll pick up next week. In the afternoon, we had Ms. Konno read us a story. We also read "Enemy Pie", and talked about how that fits into our work on being kind. We finished the day with an IWP (Independent Work Period), where students caught up on some of their unfinished work. Both SLAs for the 3s and Health for the 4s will resume next week. We should finish by mid next week. We have no school tomorrow - enjoy your long weekend. Reminders:
Question of the night: "If given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind." What does this mean to you?
Some very important notices went home On Friday. Two were about the Terry Fox Run and another about Power Hour. Power hour forms need to be returned by September 22nd - please check out the power hour website for more info: Power Hour Website. We continued with our SLAs and literacy centres this morning. Students are very excited and independent during these centres, which is when most of our 1-1 reading time occurs. The grade 4s continued with Health - there is some homework today, which we'll take up during our next class. In Wonder, August just finished his first day of school. He rated it as a 5/10, so not bad. I wonder if he's holding in some of his true feelings. See you tomorrow. Reminders:

Some very important notices went home On Friday. Two were about the Terry Fox Run and another about Power Hour. Power hour forms need to be returned by September 22nd - please check out the power hour website for more info: Power Hour Website. Thanks to everyone for their comments. We love reading about your passions! If I could take a trip anywhere, it would be to the Moon. Hey, we never said it had to be here on Earth! This morning, the grade 3s continued with their SLAs, while the 4s began health. Today was very light, just talking about puberty, what that means, and some possible physical, emotional, and relational changes that may occur. Tomorrow we'll continue talking about these changes. There is some homework tonight - an interview with a trusted adult re: puberty. In the afternoon, Mrs. K was here, as Mr. V had to go check out his wrist. Hopefully it's not broken! We worked on some math, PE, then nominated some students for their sportsmanship. We'll do it all again tomorrow... Reminders:
Question of the night: If you could take a trip anywhere, where would you go? And why?
Some very important notices went home On Friday. Two were about the Terry Fox Run and another about Power Hour. Power hour forms need to be returned by September 22nd - please check out the power hour website for more info: Power Hour Website. This morning, the Grade 3s began their SLA work on the computers. The Grade 4s attempted to find patterns in Pascal's Triangle. The grade 3s will continue with their SLAs all week, while the 4s shift to Health tomorrow. We began our literacy centres today. This week, we'll be going through only 4, as the SLAs are cutting into that time. We're excited to get going. IN the afternoon, we began brainstorming about a trip that we'd like to take. That will be our first formal writing prompt of the year. We'll continue tomorrow. Have a good night. Reminders:
Question of the night: Discuss with your family your work in the Idea Lab this morning. What did you build and why did you build it?
Some very important notices went home today. Two were about the Terry Fox Run and another about Power Hour. Power hour forms need to be returned by September 22nd - please check out the power hour website for more info: Power Hour Website. Two forms went home electronically today, as well. One about grade 3 SLAs and other about grade 4 Health. PLease have a look at these, and contact me with any questions. This morning, we discussed our last literacy centre, had a circle together at the carper, did our recycling responsibilities, and finished off with some earned time. Have a great weekend. Be safe! Question of the night: Discuss with your family your work in the Idea Lab this morning. What did you build and why did you build it?
Wow, another hot one today. We began the day with music, and had a great time singing about international "Dot" day. When we came back to class, we had a great time discussing the meaning of dot day, and related it to the book, "It's Okay to be Different." We spent some time exploring in the idea lab this morning, where we had some time to think about the question, "What Inspires you?" We continued with handwriting and learned the letter "b", which is a bit tricky, especially when you combine it with "e"s and "i"s. In Wonder, August is smack in the middle of his first day of school, which can be a pretty scary time. We talked about empathy, or "stepping into others' shoes", and why that is such an important character trait. See you tomorrow...it's Friday! Reminders:
