Question of the night: Post One word you use to describe yourself.
Wow, what an amazing day. The grade 4s led the pink shirt day assembly today and it was amazing. I know we use that word alot, but this was truly incredible, amazing, unbelievable. Grade 4s, you should be super proud of yourselves, and I know your teachers and fellow students are really proud, too. This morning, we spent some time getting ready for Pink Shirt day. We also spent some time practicing our basic addition facts. We'll continue our work on subtraction tomorrow. In the afternoon, we spent some time practicing with Mrs. Dennill, then played a math game, and ended it all with some yoshi in the gym. Wow, it was a whirlwind, and we'll do it all over again tomorrow! Bye. ____________________________________________________ Grade 3 Art Request The Grade 3s at Prince of Wales are in need of Pringles chips cans with lids. Question of the night: No question...just remember to wear pink tomorrow!! Oh, and practice our Will.I.Am song...
Hello. Mrs. K was in for Mr. V all day. We started the day with a Pink Shirt Day rehearsal, which went super well. After that, we worked on finishing up our Todd Parr inspired art. The rest of the morning was spent writing with our grade 4 friends in Ms. Mosher's class...our stories are really coming along! In the afternoon, we practiced with the grade 2s, then worked on some math skills. We'll be starting to look at subtraction this week, which means breaking numbers apart, at which we're already amazing!! Subtraction will be a breeze... Remember your Pink Shirt tomorrow!!! ____________________________________________________ Grade 3 Art Request The Grade 3s at Prince of Wales are in need of Pringles chips cans with lids. Question of the night: Do a little research tonight on empathy. Can you find a great video to share during our pink shirt day assembly?
Hello, and welcome back! We had a great day today. We first worked on our pink shirt day assembly. We looked at our schedule for the day, discussed some of the changes we could make, then worked on our Will.I.Am song. After recess, we continued to work on our writing, making sure to focus on a small problem, attempts to fix the problem, then a small solution. We've studied this concept in our writing, and today we watched a video that also follows the same format: the cat came back. In the afternoon, we worked on "air" and "ear" sounds, then a see-think-wonder on a picture specific to Alberta's history. The prompt is attached at the bottom of this post. We finished the day with a visit from Ms. Shirley Hill. Our dance is really coming along! Have a great night! ____________________________________________________ Grade 3 Art Request The Grade 3s at Prince of Wales are in need of Pringles chips cans with lids. Question of the night: What is your "It's okay..." statement from today.
Wow, these fridays really fly! we started the day with a bit of a curling bonspiel. We then cooled down with a circle, where we discussed everything from our differences to funny character names. This morning, we also worked on our picture writing prompts, then on some art for our Pink Shirt Day assembly, then finished the day with our recycling duties... Yes, it really flew! Have a great weekend. ____________________________________________________ Grade 3 Art Request The Grade 3s at Prince of Wales are in need of Pringles chips cans with lids. Question of the night: Finish the sentence "it's okay to..."
Hello! We had another very reflective day today. this morning, we worked on identifying our differences, and knowing that is is okay to be different. We even read the book, "It's okay to be different," by Todd Parr. And speaking of differences, we talked a little about Anne Frank, and how her differences were held against her. The rest of the morning, we worked a bit on identifying a story's main character and its main problem. We noticed how the main problem in the story is very often about the story's main character. We also noticed that the problem does not get solved right away...it takes a few tries. Using that knowledge, we worked together to brainstorm and write our picture prompt stories. They are really coming along! In the afternoon, we worked on the handwriting letter "o", uppercase, of course. Then, we played a game that talked about the differences between accuracy and precision. Those two things are not the same, believe it or not! Field trip forms went home yesterday: please return them asap, as our trip is on March 14th. TAx forms for noon supervision went home today. Look for them in your child's backpack. See you tomorrow... ____________________________________________________ Grade 3 Art Request The Grade 3s at Prince of Wales are in need of Pringles chips cans with lids. Question of the night: Please complete the following sentence, "Cross the line if..."
Wow, a great day of learning about ourselves. We read the book, "Whoever you are," by Mem Fox. This book is a great look into the fact that we are all different, but we have many more things that make us similar than sets us apart. We then worked on an activity called "Cross the Line". This was a great practice for our Pink Shirt Day assembly. For the rest of the morning, we worked on our basic addition facts using our cusinaire trading game. We'll continue this week. After recess, we continued to work with our grade 4 friends on our writing prompts. We first worked on brainstorming small problems with small solutions. We continue tomorrow. In the afternoon, we visited with Mrs. Dennill, then Mrs. Cornford, then had another session of cross the line. Overall, we really learned about ourselves and each other. Bye for now. ____________________________________________________ Grade 3 Art Request The Grade 3s at Prince of Wales are in need of Pringles chips cans with lids. Question of the night: Look at the curling "house" at the bottom of this post. Which team got points, and how many?
Hello and welcome back! We started the morning by engaging in conversation within our classroom community. We talked about our weekend, then anything else that came up. We spent a whole 15 minutes talking to just one person, and made sure to give that person our undivided attention. After that, we read, "Red, A crayon story", about a crayon that is labelled red, but is indeed blue. We then used this book as our hook for talking about labelling, judging and diversity. We're going to be talking about this lots this week and next, as we lead into next week's Pink shirt day. After recess, we spent some time listening and reading stories, while focusing on three main questions: 1) What's the problem in the story? 2) When is the problem introduced? 3) How big is the problem? We listened to the "Tawny, Scrawny lion" and "The LIttle engine that could". We also spent some time with our grade 4 neighbours from room 15 and discussed the book, "Here I Am", which we will be using over the next few weeks. In the afternoon, we worked on our spring concert songs with our grade 2 buddies, then worked on a bit of addition and subtraction, and focused heavily on open number lines. Have a great night! ____________________________________________________ Grade 4 Students at Prince of Wales School Current Grade 4 students living within the Legacy community who are currently attending Grade 4 at Prince of Wales School will be enrolled at Wilma Hansen School for Grade 5 for the 2018-2019 school year. Question of the night: Why do you think valentine's day is special? Happy Valentine's Day! Wow, what a quick day. We started by going to the gym to play a little 5-Ball Dodgeball, then went to visit Mrs. Cornford in the library. When we got back to class, we continued our olympic research, then worked on a little valentine's day card for our kindie buddies. We didn't quite get it all finished, but our buddies loved them nonetheless...we're such amazing big buddies! Please remember that students have an extra, extra long weekend. Teacher's convention is this tomorrow and friday, then family day is on Monday. We'll see you all again on Tuesday. Question of the night: What olympic sport did you study today in class, and post one interesting fact about your research. We have a goal of (at least) 10 different people's posts tonight. Let's hope we get there... I'm not sure whom to thank, but the weather was considerably better today. What a different a little time outside makes... We spent the early morning today exploring the olympics, and its various events. The site we're looking at is CBC's Olympic site, and its linked here. We have one more research period tomorrow, then we'll complete a visual journal page of our findings. In math, we finally got to work on some binary code addition. Here's the video we watch to get us prepared, and the sheet we use is attached at the bottom of this post. Binary code is one of the best ways to show off our addition. In the afternoon, we worked with the grade 2s on our spring concert songs. Don't forget, those songs are all posted in D2L. After that, we finished the day by talking about simple machines. We tried to use our hands (no simple machine) to cut a piece of paper, then a pair of wedges (or scissors, as most people call them), and an inclined plane (or ruler). We then talked about how we should use the simple machine that best matches the outcome we want. wedges cut better than a ramp, and screws fasten wood together better than a pulley. And tonight's mystery word is wedge, so don't forget to mention it before 9 am tomorrow morning. Question of the night: Find as many simple machines at your house...and post them here. If you need a refresher on Simple Machines, click here: Simple Machines.
Remember to read the entire blog post today, since there may (head nodding yes!!) be a secret word in this blog post... Another day, another blue day...yikes. I think today was the coldest one so far...let's hope tomorrow is warmer. We started the morning by completing a see-think-wonder. The picture is posted at the bottom of this blog entry. We were super focused this morning! This morning, we also studied the topic of digital citizenship and digital etiquette. We'll be communicating much more often through online forums (ie. D2L discussions), so it's super important we know how to respectfully communicate online (Mystery word of the night is: "Pulley"). In math, we're still working on addition, so we practiced a little bit more. Tomorrow, we're going to work on binary code, which involves a ton of addition. In the afternoon, we went on a simple machines hunt around the school. It's amazing how simple machines make very complex machines! Have a great night... ____________________________________________________ Grade 4 Students at Prince of Wales School Current Grade 4 students living within the Legacy community who are currently attending Grade 4 at Prince of Wales School will be enrolled at Wilma Hansen School for Grade 5 for the 2018-2019 school year.
