Question of the night: How could you estimate how much candy you collected today? About how much did you get?
Happy Halloween! This morning, we continued to work on our Remembrance Day songs. Ms. B also began to teach us about different poetry styles. She started with an acrostic poem this morning, and will continue for the rest of this week. We'll create a "poetry Wall" in the classroom, then we're going to use poetry to show off our understanding of Geography. That's the goal! We also completed a few halloween themed drawings today, from a mummy and werewolf to Jack Skellington. In the afternoon, we got together with our Kindie buddies for the first time, then watched some spooky stories. We also ate some delicious foods, including an amazing minion cake by CK. Be safe tonight. We'll see you tomorrow. _____________________________________________________ A message from Mrs. McKay's Power Hour Dear Students and family members of Prince of Wales school, Mrs. McKay’s POWer hour is all about giving back and helping other. Question of the night: What would you say or do if you saw someone vandalizing school property?
This morning flew by! We worked with Ms. Lauf on art, then were off to the library for some change of scenery. When we got back, we discussed vandalism in the school. The discussion focused around respect, for ourselves, each other, and our learning environment. Lastly, we ended the say with some earned time, music, and PE. Don't forget Halloween on Monday. We can wear costumes all day, and we'll be having a bit of a celebration in the afternoon. If you have games that you'd like to play, please bring them in on Monday. Have a great weekend! _____________________________________________________ A message from Mrs. McKay's Power Hour Dear Students and family members of Prince of Wales school, Mrs. McKay’s POWer hour is all about giving back and helping other. Question of the night: We've been having some problems with vandalism at school. Do you have any suggestions on how to solve our problems?
First of all, some students have duolingo homework. They must complete 20xp by tomorrow morning. Here are the students that are not done: TD, BH, CK, CG, DB, DS, FB, JT, RT, and Mr. V. IN the morning, we continued to work on remembrance day rehearsal with Mrs. Dennill. We also had literacy centres and flexible math groups. In the afternoon, we worked on the letter "y" for handwriting, then finished Summer's part in Wonder. We also worked a bit on French this afternoon. We'll see you at the dance tonight. Or, we'll see you tomorrow. Bye for now! _____________________________________________________ A message from Mrs. McKay's Power Hour Dear Students and family members of Prince of Wales school, Mrs. McKay’s POWer hour is all about giving back and helping other. Question of the night: Tell us about today's nature walk. What was the most memorable part of the trip?
This morning, Ms. B got us to reflect on the following: "Tell the story of Halloween from the perspective of a piece of candy." We'll continue to work on this. Flexible math groups continue to work on topics around patterning. All classes are working on different ways of presenting the same concept. In the afternoon, we walked to Fish Creek to work on some nature observations. We had 4 areas on which we worked: Writing about nature, Drawing Nature, Nature Sounds, measuring our shadows. We had some problems measuring our shadows since the sun decided to go behind the clouds. We'll have to make those observations another day. Tomorrow night is the Halloween Family dance. We'll wear our costumes next Monday, so don't wear them tomorrow, please! See you tomorrow. _____________________________________________________ A message from Mrs. McKay's Power Hour Dear Students and family members of Prince of Wales school, Mrs. McKay’s POWer hour is all about giving back and helping other. Question of the night: What is an adjective, and what is your favourite one?
We continue to work with Mrs. Dennill on our Remembrance day songs. They are sounding great! We have a new round of literacy stations this week. This is where we can show off our independent learning. We've been working on documenting our learning, and making sure we look at our learning checklist after every centre. We had power hour in the afternoon. It's always fun to hear about all of our experiences - they are so diverse! Please remember our walking trip tomorrow. We'll leave right at 1pm, weather permitting. Please make sure to wear appropriate clothes and footwear. In the park, we'll be exploring our senses, especially light and sound. Please contact me with any questions. Have a good night. _____________________________________________________ A message from Mrs. McKay's Power Hour Dear Students and family members of Prince of Wales school, Mrs. McKay’s POWer hour is all about giving back and helping other. TGIF! This morning, we continued to work with Ms Lauf on art, while Mr. V worked with her class on some math puzzles. Ms. Lauf is teaching us about proportional thinking. We'll continue next week! We also went to the library this morning, just for a change of scenery and to find new books. We did our recycling jobs, then ended the day with some music and Pe with Mrs. Dennill. Question of the night: Can you find any words in the english language that have 2 w's beside each other?
Hello. Wow, a great day of thinking. We went to the idea lab this morning, where we read the book, "What do you do with a problem?". We then went to room 10 to ask questions about a problem they've been having: Shadow, the bunny, loves to go out of the classroom to explore, but that can be a bit dangerous for it. So, we need to design something that will allow room 10 to keep its doors open, but not let Shadow wander the school. Talk to someone in your house about this problem, and perhaps talk about the solutions you found. Our flexible math groups are going well. Please ask your child what they learned today, and how it's going, then pass on that info to Mr. V. In the afternoon, we learned to handwrite the letter "w", which is a bit tricky since it ends in the middle of the page, just like a "b". We then worked on a new tool called "No Red Ink", where Mr. V is able to assign you work based on certain language arts topics (e.g. nouns). We'll use that every week to master some of the rules of writing. Tomorrow is Friday...need I say more? Have a good night! _____________________________________________________ A message about photos The picture day order forms are due in the office tomorrow, October 19. Question of the night: Give us an example of a noun, a proper noun, or one of each.
Hello. A day full of learning. We began with some work on nouns. We watched School House Rock, "What is a noun?", read the book, "A Mink, a Frink, a Skating Rink", then discussed nouns. We even talked about proper nouns. We had our first flexible math group this morning, interrupted, of course, by a fire drill. We began by exploring patterns in cusinaire rods. Tomorrow we'll look at equations. In the afternoon, we collected the recycling and read some wonder. We finished Via's point of view, Now it's Summer's Please check the reminders at the bottom of the post for upcoming dates. Have a good night. _____________________________________________________ A message about photos The picture day order forms are due in the office tomorrow, October 19. Question of the night: Tell me about today's power hour.
Hi All. Sorry for not blogging last night - no excuse...I just forgot. Today we started with our usual Tuesday morning circle. We talked about how we feel when we're not included, if we had one wish, and our favourite foods. Our circles are going well, with more and more students sharing their thoughts. We continue to prep for our remembrance day assembly. Please see D2L for lyrics and songs, and please practice at home, if you have the chance. In the afternoon, we learned the letter "n" in handwriting, then read wonder. We're getting close to the end of via's part. Summer is next. Finally, we ended the day with power hour. Please check the reminders at the bottom of this post. Many more entries were added. Oh, and apparently some kids want a pajama day tomorrow...so, if you want a pajama day, wear them. Thanks to CM for suggesting it! _____________________________________________________ A message about photos The picture day order forms are due in the office tomorrow, October 19.
