Question of the night: Enjoy the sunshine. What is your favourite thing to do in the sun?
Hello! What a day. We needed to make our final mousetrap predictions today. THey're now done, and we'll be beginning to build next week. Remember, our goal is to be the most accurate, not the furthest distance. We also began talking about Alberta Landscapes this morning. We'll be working on this art project over the next couple of weeks. Have a great weekend. Thank you to all of the parents for spoiling us over this week...you are amazing! ____________________________________________________ Important Dates:
Question of the night: What are you doing in your writing clubs?
Hello! We started this morning with our writing clubs. These are going great...and super fast! We only have 4 more sessions together... After writing, we worked on patterns in math. We're working super hard on our mental math, since that really helps identifying patterns. Honestly, we are great with our pattern so far, and so we'll be able to move into algebra soon! We continue to work on our travel plan, but we're getting close to moving on. In the afternoon, we visited Mrs. Dennill, the library, had our pictures taken, then went outside for PE. It's great having beautiful weather! Have a great night. ____________________________________________________ Important Dates:
Question of the night: What would you do if someone whispered you a rumour about another person?
Wowza! Another full day of learning! We began the day with our writing clubs, where we're learning to complete a expository report, or a persuasive writing piece, or some poetry. We have 5 more days in this group, then we switch... Also in the morning, worked on our travel plan. These plans are going great...some of us are even starting to make our presentation! In the afternoon, we visited with Ms. Purkiss, where we talked about empathy and making sure that "Me" monster doesn't creep into our work at school. We're going to meet with Ms. Purkiss every few weeks to talk about some social lessons. We ended the day with a bit of role playing. One student was asked to leave the class, then when they came back, random students would start whispering. We talked about perception, as well as making sure that we put ourselves in each others' shoes...teachers call that "empathy". Spring Photo day tomorrow. Wear your best smile... ____________________________________________________ Important Dates:
Question of the night: What is one attraction you are visiting in your Alberta Travel Plan?
Again, where does the day go? We began the morning by working in our writing groups. In my group, we continued to talk about expository writing, and we looked at a report to pick out what we thought are the most important parts of a report. We'll continue tomorrow. We also continued to work on our mousetrap cars today. We studied the relationship between axles and how many times it turns with some string. Now, we'll have to work a little bit tomorrow on figuring out how size of wheels, size of levers, and size of axles all work together in our mouse trap car. Remember, the goal is to predict how far it will go, not necessarily the furthest. Before lunch, we worked on our alberta travel plan, where some of us are working on hotels andwhere we'll be staying. Definitely lots of math at this stage. In the afternoon, we visited Mrs. Dennill, Mrs. Cornford, and Ms. Konno with our buddies. Have a great night! Please don't forget your D2L posts for your book clubs. ____________________________________________________ Important Dates:
Question of the night: If you could research anything, what would it be?
Wow, where does the day go? We began a new writing clubs switch this morning. We've split the grade 4s into 3 groups. One group will be with Ms. Gray over the next 3 weeks, one group will be with Mr. V, and yet another will be with Ms. Mosher. We're each going to be learning different styles of writing: poetic, persuasive, and expository. Today was the first day! We worked on our mouse trap cars this morning. We focused on levers today. We're trying to figure out how much string we need to use in our mousetrap cars. There's got to be some math behind it! Tomorrow we're onto axles...this part is more tricky... In the afternoon, we worked a bit on Book clubs, then on our travel plans. Some of us are at the figuring out how far we're traveling stage. Others are at other stages. We'll continue tomorrow. Please don't forget your D2L posts for your book clubs. ____________________________________________________ Important Dates:
Question of the night: What do you like better: snow in April or Rain in April?
What an incredibly busy day. We started the day with an individual see-think-wonder. We wanted to see if we could make ourselves slow down on our way, without being told to slow down. The prompt was the stampede poster for this year, which connected well to our upcoming trip to the oh stampede ranch in longview. After that, we watched a quick video about levers. Here it is. We then used our new knowledge of levers to build some using our lego kits. We had a great time using levers as catapults, too. After recess, we talked about our mouse trap cars. Our first job was to see if we could figure out the relationships between diameter, circumference, and the distance a wheel travels over one rotation. Tomorrow, we're working on the lever, or power, arm. Have a great night. ____________________________________________________ Important Dates:
Question of the night: Have a great weekend!
A Great day! We started with a run around in the gym, where our "nominators" had us play bench dodgeball. What a great game! We followed up PE with some travel planning. Today we focused on the cost of our attractions. We're working slowly through the province. Next week, we'll work on figuring out where we're staying... Oh, we also met up with our kindie buddies! HAve a great weekend... ____________________________________________________ Important Dates:
Question of the night: tell us one interesting thing about light that you learned today.
Wow, what a day! We spent the entire morning with Scientist Mary. She taught us all about light. We learned that light travels in a straight line, that it's super fast (the fastest thing we know), that it creates shadows, and way more. We even got to split visible light into its different colours. We used prisms and cds for that! In the afternoon, we finished off this week's book club reading. We all got a chance to make some posts in D2l ABOUT OUR BOOKS. WE WILL GET TOGETHER TOMORROW TO DISCUSS THIS WEEK'S READING... OH, AND IT'S WINTER, AGAIN! SEE YOU TOMORROW. ____________________________________________________ Important Dates:
Question of the night: If you had to pick one thing that you could spend an hour doing at school, what would it be?
What a great day! We started the day with a see-think-wonder routine. The picture is attached at the bottom of this post. after that, we went right into our Alberta Travel plan, where we stepped back a little bit and focused specifically on the cities/towns we are visiting. We didn't worry so much about what we're going to do there or how much it'll cost or where we'll stay. We'll do that later. After recess, we had another great book club session, then spent some time competing on 10 monkeys. Yes, I know, that's a funny name! Please don't forget to post for book club on D2L... In the afternoon, we visited with Mrs. Dennill, Mrs. Cornford, then finished the day with reading some "fish in a tree". Again, don't forget your d2l posts!! Oh, and tomorrow we have scientist in the classroom in the morning...I forgot to tell you! Bye for now. ____________________________________________________ Important Dates:
Question of the night: Which book are you reading in Book Club? What happened in the first chapter?
We started off today with our Alberta Travel Planning. We're working our way around the province, making sure to visit every region. There's (of course) a bit of math, too, since we have to keep track of our expenses. We'll continue tomorrow. This morning, we also finished up (for now) our study of subtraction. We talked about subtracting with zeroes in the top number, ie. moving across the zeroes. It' probably the part of subtracting and regrouping that confuses most people. We, however, learned a little trick. Check out the video here. In the afternoon, we had our first session of book club. We have chapters to read and roles to complete. We also meet together on Friday to discuss. Also, we have on-going homework on D2L: we have to discuss our books on D2L under discussions. The expectation is (at least) twice per week. Enjoy discussing! Have a great night. ____________________________________________________ Important Dates:
