Question of the night: From what we read in Wonder today, how would you describe Justin's character traits?
we've finally uploaded our remembrance Day video. Please have a look at our community's beautiful interpretation of Garth Brooks' "We Shall bE Free". The originals are posted outside of our classroom. Come have a look! Click Here! Wow, a full day of learning. In the morning, we started our day with some math work on some "If, then" relationships using cusinaire rods. This will help us in the future when working on fractions. We then assumed that the white block was 1 and played a game called "25 Train". Ask your child how it works... We also worked on some editing in the morning, which is now part of our daily routine. Today's passage was about the Boreal Forest region in Alberta. In the afternoon, we skipped handwriting and started with "Wonder". We learned some things about Justin's character traits. We then went right into science, with the grade 4s beginning their roles as "garbologists" (that is, studying different classroom's garbage), while the 3s continued to study the 3 different types of rocks. First day of December tomorrow... Have a great night! we've finally uploaded our remembrance Day video. Please have a look at our community's beautiful interpretation of Garth Brooks' "We Shall bE Free". The originals are posted outside of our classroom. Come have a look! Click Here! This morning, we started brainstorming about how we'll be graded on our shape poems. We'll have that ready tomorrow, so all students will know exactly where they stand at any given time. In the morning, we also worked in our flexible math groups, then were off to PE. Last day of hockey is tomorrow. Thank you to BH, LT, and JF for teaching hockey today. In the afternoon, we worked on science, shape poems, and wonder. Wow, that was a full afternoon. Please don't forget to check the dates at the bottom. Question of the night: We worked on the letter "x" in handwriting today. One of our words was "Xantham Gum". Have a look in your pantry and see if you can find this as an ingredient in something. Post where you found it.
we've finally uploaded our remembrance Day video. Please have a look at our community's beautiful interpretation of Garth Brooks' "We Shall bE Free". The originals are posted outside of our classroom. Come have a look! Click Here! This morning, we continued to edit our work together. We worked on a passage about the Ukraine today, then worked through our last passage about Alberta's grasslands. We also reviewed shape poems, which we're using to show our learning about Geography. We also learned a new Language arts technique which we called "Draw, Label, Write." It involves drawing a caricature, labelling its nouns, writing adjectives for those nouns, then bringing it all together in sentences. We'll be doing these fairly consistently over the next few weeks. We're finally onto Justin's part in Wonder. It's written differently than any other part - one student mentioned that it sounded like "Diary Writing". in the afternoon, we worked on our geography shape poems, as well as handwriting uppercase "x". Have a great night. Check out the updated important dates at the bottom of this post. ____________________________________________________ Christmas Tree Decorating A group of parent volunteers have put up our Christmas tree in the Idea Lab. Question of the night: Find at least 5 uppercase "U" words, and make at least one sentence.
First off, we've finally uploaded our remembrance Day video. Please have a look at our community's beautiful interpretation of Garth Brooks' "We Shall bE Free". The originals are posted outside of our classroom. Come have a look! Click Here! This morning, we worked with Ms. B on editing. The passage today was about Alberta's grasslands, specifically hoodoos. We'll learn more about this type of landscape throughout the year. We also went to the Idea Lab this morning. We're almost done our prototypes for the bunny problem in Room 10. We'll be testing next week, then re-designing if needed. Stay Tuned. In the afternoon, we worked on the letter "u", then talked about character development. We started off by describing our character's traits, then a start to our character's self-portraits. We'll be working with Mr. Mike Grills to refine our characters. Please note that we don't have a school tomorrow. See you Monday! ____________________________________________________ Canstruction Club is looking for non-perishable donations to build our structure next Thursday. Question of the night: tell us your favourite ringette activity from the past week?
First off, we've finally uploaded our remembrance Day video. Please have a look at our community's beautiful interpretation of Garth Brooks' "We Shall bE Free". The originals are posted outside of our classroom. Come have a look! Click Here! Hi Again! This morning we had another editing session. This time we worked on India's landscape. We'll focus on Alberta tomorrow. We also had an extra long period of music. In flex math groups, we worked on pattern rules...some pretty difficult stuff! We have finalized our landscapes, then it's on to shape poems. In the afternoon, we worked on "v" in handwriting. After that, we separated the 3s and 4s for science. We won't do that often, but over the next few weeks the 3s will be working on rocks and minerals, while the 4s will be working on Waste and our world. Speaking of waste, the grade 4s have homework to study our class website --> Science ---> Waste and our world links. thank you again to CM and JB for teaching us about ringette again today. They even handed out the "Sweaty-Head Awards" for the students that tried their best. Congratulations to JT, RT, CK, and OK on their award...I wonder how sweaty their heads were? Bye for now. ____________________________________________________ Canstruction Club just began this week with the grade 5 and 6’s who signed up! We will be designing and creating a structure out of non-perishable food items as part of a contest in partner with the Mayor’s 28th Annual Christmas Food Drive for the Calgary Food Bank. The project is called Canstruction Jr. We are asking for donations to help us build our structure and are specifically looking for green items such as cans and boxes that are green in colour. A variety of sizes would be great. Thanks in advance for your support with this! We look forward to showing your our finished product. Please contact Mrs.Blanchard or Mrs.Hammond with with questions. Question of the night: Tell us about Power Hour. What power hour do you want to do next time?
Hello! A fun day of learning. This morning, we started the day with a circle, where we talked about our geography research. We're starting to link our geography to our poems and art. After that, Ms. B talked to us about editing, then we edited our first landscape passage. We'll do another one tomorrow! Flex math groups are still progressing along, and we continue to work on patterns. We'll wrap it up before the break. In the afternoon, we worked on the letter "w", then tried to finalize our landscape portraits. We'll use these to create a shape poem about the region (grade 4) or country (grade 3) that best captures our interest. Stay tuned...we're almost there! Power Hour is now officially done...until January. Hopefully you were able to showcase your learning today. Finally, thank you to CM and JB for teaching us about ringette again today. They even handed out the "Sweaty-Head Awards" for the students that tried their best. Congratulations to DS and AF on their award...I wonder how sweaty their heads were? Question of the night: Please use the phrase "save for" in a sentence. Make your sentence as unique as possible.
Hi All! We're right back into learning this morning. First off, we had music with Mrs. Dennill. After that, Ms. B talked to us about "sight words", and we even started our own sight words board. We're starting a topic-specific word wall soon, with the first one being geography words. We continued with literacy centres, then started working on landscape pictures of one of our country's region (grade 3s), or Alberta's regions (grade 4s). We'll be using these landscapes with our shape poems. In the afternoon, we worked on upper case "O", then caught up on Wonder. Jack and Auggie are friends once again, and Jack now knows how Auggie feels everyday. Have a good night. ____________________________________________________ Canstruction Club just began this week with the grade 5 and 6’s who signed up! Question of the night: What shape did you decide to use for your shape poem? Why did you choose that shape?
This morning, we worked in the Idea Lab with Mrs. Blanchard. We're still working on our prototypes for the bunny "problem" of Room 10. Most students have a great start, with some even moving into the testing phase. We'll go again next week. Ms. B taught us another style of poetry this morning: shape poems. We worked together on one about a snowman, then we got to choose our own shapes. Most of us are still working on these. Stay tuned on Monday...we'll use this style again on then, and will link it to social studies. Have a great weekend! ____________________________________________________ A Message from Power Hour Hi it’s the Give POWer Hour to tell you about our next charity we are supporting The Calgary poppy fund supports the veterans and their Dependent’s no matter their age. Question of the night: What is the most interesting thing you learned at telus Spark today?
Wow, what a day! We had a great time learning and exploring at Telus Spark today. The morning was spent exploring in our small groups, while the afternoon was spent in teacher-led sessions. The grade 3s studied sound and hearing and the 4s studied light and shadows. Make sure to ask your child about these programs. Some of the most fun exhibits were, as voted on by room 16: -Toilet Fountain -Bed of Nails!!! -Brainasium and the 60ft slide -Bus Ride Home -Drawing with lights -Getting shocked -Shadow Music -Dance Battery Don't be alarmed if your child mentions they drank out of a toilet... Question of the night: What is the most interesting fact from your research today?
Hello. Sorry for not updating the blog over the last few days: I've been home sick, and I'm still investigating which grade 3/4 student passed me that bug...Oh well, it's part of the charm of working with kids. Please remember that tomorrow is our field trip to Telus Spark. Please pack an extra snack, as we'll be active all day. We will not have access to a microwave during our trip. If you are volunteering, please know that you are able to ride the bus to the science centre, if you so choose. This morning, we had our first circle of the week, then moved right into writing some Haikus. We also continued with literacy centres this morning. In the afternoon, we wrapped up some of our preliminary research into the geography of Alberta and The four countries. We're getting close to showing our knowledge of the geography of these places, then we'll probably take a break and focus on some science. Have a great night. ____________________________________________________ A Message from Power Hour Hi it’s the Give POWer Hour to tell you about our next charity we are supporting The Calgary poppy fund supports the veterans and their Dependent’s no matter their age.
