Question of the night: Tell us your thoughts about our trip to Fish Creek this afternoon.
Wow! What an amazing remembrance Day ceremony. The grade 3/4s did such an amazing job singing and reflecting. We were incredible ambassadors of peace. Great work! In the afternoon, we had a very fun and exciting trip into Fish Creek with our kindergarten buddies. We saw some amazing scenery, and even saw a couple of deer trotting in the tall grass. Please remember to observe remembrance Day tomorrow. Have a safe long weekend. See you Monday! ____________________________________________________ A Message from Power Hour Hi it’s the Give POWer Hour to tell you about our next charity we are supporting The Calgary poppy fund supports the veterans and their Dependent’s no matter their age. Question of the night: What is sourcing your information mean? Why is it important?
Hi! We continued our remembrance day rehearsal this morning. We'll do our last rehearsal tomorrow. Remembrance day is on thursday. Please remember to wear black pants and white shirts. If you have donations for the veteran's food bank, or want to donate for poppies, please bring in your donation tomorrow. In the morning, we worked with Ms. B on diamante poems. We'll be working on Haikus tomorrow. Our assembly tomorrow is at 10:45am and will likely last about 45 minutes. We've been working extremely hard, and would love for parents to come and support us. In the afternoon, we continued our social studies research. We were very focused, with the grade 3s focusing on the 4 countries and the 4s on Alberta's regions. We talked about sourcing our information before starting our research. In the afternoon tomorrow, we plan on going on a ridge walk with our kindergarten buddies. We'll be leaving here at 1pm and returning around 3pm. Please make sure to wear weather appropriate clothing, including comfortable shoes. See you tomorrow. ____________________________________________________ A Message from Power Hour Hi it’s the Give POWer Hour to tell you about our next charity we are supporting The Calgary poppy fund supports the veterans and their Dependent’s no matter their age. Question of the night: Do you have any suggestions on how to make our remembrance day better?
It's Monday! What an exciting day. Before recess, we rehearsed for our remembrance day ceremony. We did an excellent job with our singing. We'll rehearse again tomorrow. Ms. B taught us another type of poetry, the diamante. We'll continue to work on this tomorrow. Ms. B is also going to do some art with us tomorrow, as well. We worked on adjectives today, and figured that they are always attached to a noun. In the afternoon, we worked on uppercase "c", then started talking about our geography research. The grade 4s will study the 6 Alberta regions, while the 3s will focus on the four countries of India, Ukraine, Tunisia, and India. Photo retakes tomorrow, if you're interested. Bye! ____________________________________________________ Photo Retakes If you wish your child to have retakes, please send in the original proof order form. If you have misplaced the form, you can write a note to your child’s teacher so we know you have given permission to have retakes done. Question of the night: Tell us about your art piece from today, and why you chose the art piece you did?
Thank you to all of your comments on Thursday. You are all such thoughtful people, and it's great to see your thoughts on Remembrance Day. We didn't have a chance to look at your comments as a group, but we'll do that monday. Friday was an art day! Thank you to Ms. B for leading us in some art activities, and giving us some inspiration for remembrance day. We created some very reflective pieces of art that will be showcased during our remembrance day ceremony. Please continue to practice your songs at home. Have a great weekend! ____________________________________________________ Photo Retakes If you wish your child to have retakes, please send in the original proof order form. Question of the night: Why do you observe Remembrance Day?
This morning, Mrs. K was here. Ms. B taught us another style of poetry called a "Cinquain". we also worked on some math, then watched a science video about homemade science. I wonder if we'll be able to try some of those experiments ourselves. In the afternoon, we finished prepping for our geography research. We had a conversation about the different geographical formations of Alberta, as compared to the 4 countries which the grade 3s will be studying. The 4s will focus their energy on Alberta. Today we finished with Ukraine and India, and made sure to compare those with Alberta. Next week, we'll begin researching our respective countries/Province. Have a good night. _____________________________________________________ A message from Mrs. McKay's Power Hour Dear Students and family members of Prince of Wales school, Mrs. McKay’s POWer hour is all about giving back and helping other. The first group of people that we have chosen to help live right in our city. We will be collecting winter coats, boots, hats, scarves, mitts, and snow pants that are gently used. These items will be for Syrian Refugees from Keeler school in Calgary, where Ms. Georg is now teaching. The refugees have left their homes with nothing but themselves. (Think about it if you did not have a warm winter coat walking out into the snow). Please bring in sizes for age 4 and up. Please help out! Question of the night: Can you find any words that have two x's together?
Hi! This morning, Ms. B read us a book called "My Mouth is a volcano". We then discussed some ways to keep our volcanoes from "erupting". Ms. B also gave us some more time to work on our couplet poems, which some of us shared. In our math groups, we're all working on patterns. Mr. V's group is working on morse code and shape patterns. In wonder, Jack finally figured out why august is mad at him...I wonder what will happen next? In the afternoon, we finished our lower-case handwriting with "x". Tomorrow we'll practice some of the curriculum words we know, then begin with uppercase next week. We also watched two videos this afternoon: one on Peru and the other on Ukraine. These were small, teaser videos to get us talking about the geography of those countries. We'll finish with India tomorrow, then students will be off doing their own research on the geography of those countries...and Alberta, of course. Bye for now! _____________________________________________________ A message from Mrs. McKay's Power Hour Dear Students and family members of Prince of Wales school, Mrs. McKay’s POWer hour is all about giving back and helping other. Question of the night: What is a couplet, and can you write one?
This morning, Ms. B talked to us about acrostic poems again, then taught us another style of poetry called a couplet. We had some time working on them in class, but will continue tomorrow. In flex math groups, we're still working on equations and making sure that we can make equal substitutions. In the afternoon, we worked on the letter "z", then read some wonder. We're right into Jack's point of view. We figured out that he misses hanging out with August. We also had POWEr hour. Look below for a message from Ms. Mackay's power hour. Tomorrow is walking wednesday. Bye for now. _____________________________________________________ A message from Mrs. McKay's Power Hour Dear Students and family members of Prince of Wales school, Mrs. McKay’s POWer hour is all about giving back and helping other.
