Question of the night: Again, no question...enjoy your break!
Our last day before spring break was used to tie up some loose ends. We worked on our concert in the morning, then finished up some of our writing. There will be comments in your writing over the break, so log in, if you're interested in checking them out. In the afternoon, we reviewed some of our learning to do with simple machines we've already used. We looked a gears, and how fast or slow they move depending on their size. We also looked at inclined planes, levers, and wheels and axles. Here's the game we played as review: Museum of Science & Technology. This site needs flash, so it doesn't work on google chrome. We also met up with our kindergarten friends, then spent some time outside. M-Z...see you tonight at the concert. The rest of us, see you after spring break! Enjoy it! ____________________________________________________ Spring Concert We are excited to present our Spring Performance of Water Dance on March 21st and 22nd. The staff and students have been working hard on songs, dances, and artwork. Students with last names beginning with A to L will perform on Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night. Students with last names beginning with M to Z will perform on Thursday morning and Thursday night. We ask that the students wear blue or green shirts without any letters, images, or logos and dark pants. If your child is not able to attend the evening performance, please contact your child's teacher and let them know. ____________________________________________________ Important Dates:
Question of the night: See you tonight...that's not a question!
Wow, what a day of singing and dancing. We had a great day of practising our spring concert routines, then had a dress rehearsal in the afternoon. In between, we worked on our writing, a bit of subtraction in math, and read fish in a tree. Not much else to say... Great job today, performers! And great job, audience, too. See you tonight...A-Ls, of course. ____________________________________________________ Spring Concert We are excited to present our Spring Performance of Water Dance on March 21st and 22nd. Question of the night: Ally from "Fish in a tree" uses alot of metaphors. Here's an example: Her being able to read all of mR. Daniels' books is like a lobster trying to play tennis. Here's one from me: trying to teach me art is like teaching a rhinoceros to tap dance. Come up with your own and post it here.
Wow, yet another whirlwind of a day. Besides working on some subtraction, and making sure that we can break numbers apart, we also practiced quite a bit for our spring concert. We worked on the big finale, "Me and My Kite", drumming with the kindies, and our dance. And yes, if that seems like a lot, that's because it is...we're really earning our money this week!! Of course, we still had some time to work on our writing and read a bit of "Fish in a Tree". In the afternoon, we did some practice work on subtraction. We have a dress rehearsal in the afternoon tomorrow. Parents are free to come - it will probably run for about an hour, and starts at 1:00 pm. And our A-L performance will be tomorrow night @ 6:30pm. Have a great night. ____________________________________________________ Spring Concert We are excited to present our Spring Performance of Water Dance on March 21st and 22nd. Question of the night: Just like in "Fish in a tree", if you had to fill a paper bag with something special to you, what would it be? And why?
Ok, first of all, what a mess the leprechaun (or leprechauns) left over the weekend. They somehow made it through our maze of traps, ate some treats, took some gold coins, peed in some water bottles. They even hung up Mr. V's boots and put the green class chair on top of the cupboards! I guess we'll have to wait until next St. Patrick's Day to try to catch the rascals... We began the day with a dance rehearsal for our spring concert. We also worked on drumming with our kindie friends. It was basically an entire concert morning. After recess, we practiced with the grade 2s, then worked on our grade 4 writing project. After lunch, we watched a science max on friction, practiced drumming with the kindies, and worked on our lego kits. Wow, what a day! ____________________________________________________ Spring Concert We are excited to present our Spring Performance of Water Dance on March 21st and 22nd. Question of the night: How can you help if you see someone get hurt?
Attempt number 2 for our lake art was today. We figured out that you need to use lot of paint, especially since salt takes moisture out of materials. We'll check it out tomorrow, but they're starting to look great! We also worked a bit on subtraction this morning, which we'll continue next week. We practiced our drumming routine twice today. We're getting super confident. We finished the day with some lego work - some of us finished our gears exploration, while others were working on wheels & axles. Don't forget your leprechaun traps tomorrow. ____________________________________________________ Spring Concert We are excited to present our Spring Performance of Water Dance on March 21st and 22nd. Question of the night: What would you do if you saw one of your friends talking behind someone's back?
Hello! We started the day with a bit of art. We were trying out a new art technique of using slat with water colour paints. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't...that's part of life. We'll see if this technique worked this time. We continued to work on our stories after recess, and have been using google docs for this task. We're working on taking feedback and incorporating it into our writing. It's tough work this whole writing thing... We had a spring concert practising afternoon. We started with the grade 2s, then we learned a new djembe rhythm that we'll be performing with the kindies, then ended the day with a dance practice. Wow, we're going to be busy this week and next!! Please don't forget our field trip tomorrow. We're heading to the Glenbow Museum to learn about Alberta's history, including its blackfoot history. Leprechaun traps due on Friday...those pesky leprechauns will not get away this time! ____________________________________________________ Spring Concert We are excited to present our Spring Performance of Water Dance on March 21st and 22nd. Question of the night: Think of the quote: "Everybody is a genius. But if we judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid." --Albert Einstein. At what are you a "genius"? In other words, what are your talents?
Oh, spring forward, how tiring you are! I don't know how everybody else was feeling, but today was a tiring day. That hour of sleep lost really hits me hard... This morning, we started talking about plausible v. non-plausible parts of our stories. By plausible, we mean does it make sense, not necessarily if it's realistic. We started by writing some things we could have done this weekend, with some being true and others being false. We then tried to guess the truth. Some were easy, ie. they weren't plausible, like "I got a pet dinosaur this weekend", while others were harder to guess because they made sense, like "I played hockey on Saturday." We started a new book called "Fish in a Tree", which is about a girl that can't read, and she's trying to keep it a secret. This book is along the same lines as "Wonder", and teaches us empathy and celebrating people's talents. We read chapter 1 today. In the afternoon, we worked on our lego simple machines kits. Some of us finished off gears and moved onto wheels and axles, while others were working on their final gears challenge. Oh, and we have homework this week. We're working on building leprechaun traps that have (at least) one simple machine. This is due on Friday, since St. Patrick's Day is on saturday, and we know leprechauns are out that day... Have a great night. ____________________________________________________ Spring Concert We are excited to present our Spring Performance of Water Dance on March 21st and 22nd. Question of the night: CHeck the picture at the bottom of the page. Will gear "x" and gear "y" spin the same way, or in opposite directions?
WOw, what an amazing drumming performance this morning. The kindergartens, Grade 1s, and grade4s, put on a spectacular show! Thank you again to Mr. K for leading our drumming residency, as well as Miss. O for organizing! We spent some time working on our lego models this morning. We're still looking at gears, and some are ready to move into wheels & axles next week. We watched a video on simple machines this morning. It was from TV Ontario, and it's called Science Max. Here's a link. Have a great weekend. Leprechaun traps next week - start brainstorming your designs! ____________________________________________________ Spring Concert We are excited to present our Spring Performance of Water Dance on March 21st and 22nd. Question of the night: List (at least) 4 places/things where you find gears working?
Wow, double drumming = double the fun. We had two drumming sessions with Mr. K this morning. He taught us a few different rhythms, and we worked on our performance song. He also talked to us about integrity, which defined as doing what you say you're going to do. He is super impressed with our drumming abilities. The rest of the morning, we worked on our simple machines lego kits. We're still working on gears, and trying our best to understand why certain gears turn slower, while others turn faster. Hmm, we're looking at their size for hints. In the afternoon, we visited our kindergarten buddies, where we planned their leprechaun traps. We'll be doing something similar, but ours must use at least one simple machine. This will likely be a homework project, too, so be ready to work at home this week. In the afternoon, we also had a guest presentation about being change in the world. It was super inspirational, and thank you to the grade 6s for organizing! See you tomorrow! ____________________________________________________ Spring Concert We are excited to present our Spring Performance of Water Dance on March 21st and 22nd. Question of the night: How would you solve the problem 45-38? We're not interested in the answer so much, but how would you solve it?
Hello! Mrs. K was in all day today, since Mr. V was at Wilma Hansen in the morning and in the office (not in trouble) in the afternoon. In the morning, we worked alot on math, especially talking about how to regroup numbers for subtraction. We did some practising with problems, and will eventually work towards word problems. The morning was also used for writing in our groups, which we'll be wrapping up next week. Then, we'll continue to talk about editing and revising our work. Writing is alot of work! In the morning, we visited Mrs. Dennill, then Mrs. Cornford, then worked on a little bit of Art, all before PE at the end of the day. Tickets for the spring concert will be sent home tomorrow, so please keep an eye out. Have a great night. Drumming tomorrow!! ____________________________________________________ Spring Concert We are excited to present our Spring Performance of Water Dance on March 21st and 22nd.
