Hello! A very full day of learning! This morning, we continued working on area of irregular shapes. We used cusinaire rods to model the area. We'll continue with this next math period, but we're doing really well.
In the afternoon, we read "Wonder" together. Still no full name for Via, but we found out the principal's name, and, wow, is it interesting! We also had some time with our buddies, studied petroglyphs, and watched Tuesday (and part of Wednesday's) episode of Mathnet. Did George really rob that bank? Get ready for the Glenbow tomorrow...it's very exciting! __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students (Term 2): https://studio.code.org/sections/LIDSBR __________________________________________________ Reminders:

We talked a bit about irregular polygons this morning, and will be talking about the area of these shapes tomorrow. This morning, we also read the first few chapters of "Wonder". We were introduced to a few characters, namely Auggie, via (his sister), and mom and Dad. We'll keep going tomorrow. We had some time on minecraft this afternoon. We simply explored the world. We'll have a few students recruited to build Calgary's downtown core, then the real fun begins! Please bring you permission forms for our Glenbow trip this Thursday. Wow, what a day! We started talking again about area, making sure that we're clear about why we have to use squared units when calculating area. We even used squared gorillas as a way of measure this morning.
We began looking at our new novel study book, Wonder. Students will be tasked with answering comprehension-type questions during the reading. These questions will be in their language arts duotang. We had a practice lockdown this morning, while in PE, no less. The students were quick to meet in the gym storage and were quiet for the next 15 minutes. Well done! In the afternoon, we continued to study petroglyphs and also started a new mathnet episode - the Trial of George Frankly. Please bring you permission forms for our Glenbow trip this Thursday. No form = no trip! __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students (Term 2): https://studio.code.org/sections/LIDSBR __________________________________________________ Reminders:

This morning, Ms. Purkiss came to talk to us about the differences which make us unique. Today we talked about Autism. We then continued to study petroglyphs. We studies 12 artifacts that were found in Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park. We'll continue with our investigation tomorrow. In the afternoon, all of the grade 4s came together to complete art inspired by Jackson Pollock. Some of us got our splatter art more on ourselves than our canvas. But, don't be alarmed, we used tempera paint, so have a nice shower, and it'll all wash down the drain. Have a good night! __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students (Term 2): https://studio.code.org/sections/LIDSBR __________________________________________________ Reminders:

We also started to talk about petroglyphs this morning, specifically looking at Writing-on-Stone Provincial park. We'll continue tomorrow, then carve our own petroglyph next week. In the afternoon, we worked with refraction and prisms. We figured out that prisms can separate white light into its different colours, basically a rainbow. We're going to try to refract some light again using water and oil tomorrow. We worked with Ms. England on pinhole cameras this afternoon. Don't forget to try them out at home. Lastly, wear your not-so-favourite clothes tomorrow, as we'll be doing some splatter paint in the afternoon. Have a good night! __________________________________________________ Link for PoWer Hour Students (Term 2): https://studio.code.org/sections/LIDSBR __________________________________________________ Reminders:
