Question of the night: A challenge...tomorrow morning, whisper the word "Compost" to Mr. V first thing in the morning and win a superstudent ticket.
**We are in need of MANY 2-litre Soda bottles for our classroom. If you have some to spare, please send cleaned bottles with your child. Thank you!** Wow, what a day full of learning! We began the day by listing things that are unique about Calgary, and our favourite places in calgary. We then used that list to make videos in IRIS. We'll use these videos for evidence of how much we'll learn over the next year of studying our great city. That took much longer than anticipated, so we postponed our spelling until tomorrow. Stay tuned for our words of the week. In the morning, we also talked about calculating area more efficiently by using the formula: area = length x width. We also explored cusinaire rods to practice some of these concepts. In the afternoon, we talked at length about landfills in calgary. We then talked about how we can make landfills last longer: we can either make bigger landfills...or throw away less "stuff". We decided that throwing away less stuff is better, so we'll focus on that over the next few weeks. Finally, we used google maps to take pictures of calgary's three landfills, then used our math skills to estimate the area of each one. We'll see how accurate we were tomorrow. Please dress up tomorrow, and make sure that our costumes are appropriate for school, especially our kindergarten buddies. Be safe. ____________________________________________________ Important Dates:
