Question of the night: For What colour of cusinaire rods were you trying to trade? give an example of a trade you made, if you remember it.
February has come and gone, and tomorrow we're already into March. This morning, to celebrate the start of baseball season, we began reading a story about Marcenia Lyle, the first female to play professional baseball for an all-male team. We used the book to model reading strategies. We'll finish it tomorrow. After recess, we built a makeshift trading post in the classroom, but instead of pelts, we were trading cusinarie rods (or, numbers, to be exact). This type of exercise gets us to build our mental math skills, which really helps when completing addition and subtraction problems. Tomorrow, we're going to work with cusinaire rods, then change to base 10 blocks. In the afternoon, we watched a video on sound. Here is a link, if you're interested: Haunted House. We're getting quite close to the end of our senses unit. This afternoon was also the power hour showcase for this sesssion. It was great to see many parents and students exploring the other power hours around the school. Have a good night! Please note that tax receipts for lunch supervision costs have gone home. Please make sure you received your receipt. If not, please contact me or Mrs. Pulfer at the office. ____________________________________________________ Walking Wednesday Any students who walk, ride, bike to school on Wednesday will be entered for a prize. ____________________________________________________ Power Hour January 2017 Camel Group -- https://studio.code.org/sections/DYTPMD Lion Group -- https://studio.code.org/sections/DSBGDD ____________________________________________________ Reminders:
